Since then, we have thoughtfully added additional supply partners and bean offerings to our portfolio. These decisions have been made based on a few parameters: market demand (are chocolate makers looking for this type of cacao?),Buy organic cocoa transparency and traceability (is the supply partner willing and able to provide accurate transparency data every year?), quality (is the supply partner able to provide a consistent high quality from harvest to harvest?), and values alignment (is the supply partner prioritizing social and environmental impact?).

While we had initially thought that it would be very difficult to find an origin in Ghana or Cote d’Ivoire that aligned with our priorities, due largely to government regulation, we learned to always question our assumptions and approached the opportunity collaboratively. Sucam Company believes farmer prosperity is a key ingredient in good chocolate. We boldly embrace transparent trade to build authentic, long-term relationships across the chocolate supply chain. Sucam Company started by creating cacao export companies in Cameroon (south west Region ) and that work directly with farmers to produce high quality cacao, and we continue to invest in and support those companies today.
Our Cameroon and Ghana offices distribute cacao sourced from over 5,000 smallholder farmers across 12 countries to over 250 craft and premium chocolate makers globally. Across Uncommon Cacao’s businesses, the company is pioneering a new cacao economy that pays farmers more and is grounded in real partnerships that deliver improved stability and success for all.

After developing the country’s first centralized post-harvest facility and selling out of beans each year for four years, in 2012 Sucam Company founded cocoa varieties in Ghana. These companies have brought reliable new income into rural cacao-producing economies by linking smallholder farmers to the specialty cacao industry, through meaningful market access and a focus on consistently delivering quality beans to discerning chocolate makers.
In 2016, Sucam Company grew further into the supply chain to drive maximum value to producer groups at origin while controlling more aspects of the quality and transparency from farm to factory. Sucam Company Source + Trade is our cacao distribution company based in the Ghana., with inventory on the east and west coasts of the Ivory coast Sucam Company is our entity in Africa, with cacao stored in Nigeria ,Ghana,Ivory Coast running all sourcing, sales, and customer service for our partnerships with chocolate makers in the EU, UK, and beyond. The multi-national Sucam Company Group operation enables us to collaborate with more producer groups on delivering the highest quality cacaos to bean-to-bar chocolate makers around the world, and provide added-value sourcing services to craft and premium chocolate makers and chocolates globally. Together, we are all building a more transparent, more delicious specialty cacao supply chain.
